Mayor Graham questioned me on his noon time talk show ‘Hotline’ last week, about the Senate campaign in NY 48, where Rep. Sen. Pattie Ritchie, is being challenged by County 16 Legislator Amy Tresidder. I really couldn’t answer the question, but like everyone else I speculated about what was going on with this Senate campaign. Amy Tresidder hasn’t consistently challenged Sen. Ritchie on the issues, or questioned Pattie Ritchie on her record as a whole in the NY State Senate. Amy recently failed to get back to Mayor Graham to gain access to free air time, which in her cash starved campaign is valuable. I realize that’s only the tip of the political ice-berg concerning the whole basis of the mismanagement, of this disorganized and chaotic effort at running for office on her part.
I and others donated time and effort researching about issues we could challenge Ms Ritchie on in this race. I’m frustrated with the lack of response from Amy Tresidder. And really mystified by her lack of concern about her being taken seriously. Where she could have raised issues about the lack of monetary resources directed by NYS into Oswego, NY, she failed to even raise the issue. The State monies won through Ritchie’s efforts were paltry compared to other districts. Mrs. Ritchie’s management style upon investigation was ineffective to some people. The gap between Mrs. Ritchie’s PR gambits and what she delivered was clearly a Ritchie failing, yet Amy never voiced her concerns about Ritchie. Why? I’ll tell you what I think happened and how the voters of the district have been cheated of a serious campaign this election.
This very nice woman faced a campaign that while a long uphill climb, could’ve still made this elecction competitive and possibly even a winning campaign. For reasons unknown to anyone, Amy failed to actively mount a wholehearted effort to defeat Sen. Ritchie. Andrew Cuomo supposedly wanted to keep Ritchie in office to serve his purposes in the Senate. Ritchie has been putty in the Governor’s hands, and that may explain why he shut out Tresidder, by not inviting her to several events. Amy Tresidder's run for Senate office will end shortly. It will be remembered as a half hearted election effort, which accomplished only one thing for sure, that is the re-election of Pattie Ritchie to the NY Senate. It will keep the Republicans in the Senate Majority, and fulfill Gov. Cuomo’s desire to maintain a Republican dominated Senate this election.
Let’s have a strong investigative effort by a paper to find out why Amy Tresidder, a nice person was in the end a candidate who decided to waste all our time. Mayor Graham had the savvy and guts to raise the question with me. We had a right to expect an energetic election effort, for the State Senate in NY 48, by the Democratic County Legislator, from District 16 Amy Tresidder. We need the kind of reporting that lets us the voters of District 48, know why Sen. Pattie Ritchie who should have been challenged on her record, wasn’t, forced into a real election debate about the issues. Only Amy Tresidder seems to be able to speak to that at this time..
